In last week's class we dove into the issues surrounding the term "feminist". It had and continues to have a negative connotation associated with it. That is because many don't fully understand what it means to be a feminist, what it involves. I am unafraid to say that as a feminist, I don't even know the full potential and meaning of the word and I think thats okay... There is not one clear-cut definition of feminism and there cannot be a clear image of what a feminist looks like. To hand over anything definite and concrete like that would be limiting the term. I do have a working definition however, that will continue to be modified and adjusted as needed. And I am sure throughout the course of this semester it will change bi-weekly. In my opinion, generally speaking, a feminist is someone who believes in every type of person. Regardless of race, religion, gender, sexuality, status etc. a feminist works to gain respect and equality for everyone because everyone deserves an equal chance right? Feminists acknowledge the fact that despite the advances made by women, there is still quite a bit of work to be done. The fight is not over.
